Dakini
literally translated from Tibetan means sky-goer, one who travels
through dimensions. In this modern world Dakinis represent the
natural ever changing flow of energy in Nature, from wrathful
to peaceful, and back again. Dakinis may appear as an individual,
a wild animal or bird, or in our own emotional patterns. Dakinis,
though considered unenlightened by some Buddhists, are wisdom
beings.
Dakinis
are about the embodiment of sanity. The transformational energy
of Dakinis is needed here in the West. Dakinis are said to be,
among many things, an antidote to nuclear destruction. Dakinis
exist everywhere as powerful forces of nature. Even an ordinary
or "unenlightened" person can manifest as a Dakini.
We find Dakinis in all ancient and modern cultures. Spider woman
is an example of a Dakini in the Navajo tradition. Celtic traditions
have fierce nature spirits, as well as elves. Nature spirits are
essentially Dakinis, known by their elements and behaviors.

Each
Dakini represents a color, an element, a direction, a time of
day, and a lunar cycle. Each Dakini also represents a pattern
and a range of emotions; i.e. from fear and rage, to creative
energy and grace. The Dakinis assist us in seeing how we can be
trapped by our patterns and beliefs, or we can be freed from them.
By reclaiming the Dakini inside ourselves, we affirm the quirks
and chaos of nature as part of our own nature.
Custom
portraits revolving around the Dakini principles are available.
One type is a "Dakini Medicine Portrait" which combines
the individual's western animal guide and the selected Dakini
color. The second type is the "Dakini Portrait" which
represents the individual as a pure Dakini and is based on the
individual's core emotional patterns. Please contact
Jennet for details.
